MSC 75 and MCS 76 (Maker: Marie B. Thormodsgard) are excellent examples of the “Sgraffito” design, an Italian word that means “to scratch out.” See case #4 North Dakota Products Vase, for a complete description of the process.

The covered jar MSC 10 and MSC 37 (Maker: Unknown) used the same Sgraffito design technique and the same design pattern. The difference is achieved by the color and transparency of the glaze that is applied over the blue slip.
